ABHW Executive Board 2014-2015

Meet the Board

Cary Williams

President

The women of ABHW make Harvard a home away from home. We are sisters. We have become each others' confidantes, mentors, cheerleaders, and support systems. We are brought together by our journey through Harvard as black women, but we, individually, are incredibly diverse in our backgrounds, interests, and passions. ABHW women invest in the underclassmen and pass down wisdom and advice to ensure that we pay forward the ABHW love and guidance we each have received along the way. ABHW is a source of strength; ABHW is a community in which to grow. I came to college as an only child, and I found in ABHW my sisters for life.

Courtney Smith

Vice President

ABHW to me is an organization filled with driven, passionate, and fun women who are some of the most amazing people you could surround yourself with. The ABHW ladies are capable in a classroom setting, have strong opinions on important, controversial issues, and are super chill to just hang out and have fun with. I feel like I've found a supportive community that makes me the best version of myself.

"ABHW to me is a group of inspiring and supportive women that I have found a home in. I know I can count on my ABHW sisters for advice, consolation, and a great time. Through ABHW, not only have I found friendship but I have found sisterhood. It is comforting to know that through my journey at Harvard I will always have the encouragement and love of the amazing women that make up ABHW."

Treasurer

For me, ABHW is an avenue of support on campus. Amongst this group of women, I have found some of my best friends, closest confidants, and sisters who not just identify with me, but also inspire and motivate me. Having been welcomed into such a warm community of intelligent, caring, and loving women has made my Harvard experience what is is, and despite the pressures school can creates, ABHW has never failed to make me feel at ease.

Mandi Nyambi

Anniversary Chair

As the Chair of the Anniversary Committe it is a huge understatement when I say that I am incredibly excited for this upcoming year. This is a huge moment for us as an organization, to be apart of the 40th festivities is an honor and a pleasure. I am looking forward to continuing our mission of sisterhood on our campus. ABHW has been a constant source of support, guidance and joy over the last 3 years. I will be sad to say my goodbyes at the end of this year, but I know that I will forever have this welcoming community to call home. So with that, let the celebrations begin!

"Phenomenal woman"--phenomenal women. The late, great Dr. Maya Angelou's six-syllable phrase so succinctly and perfectly describes my ABHW sisters. The Association of Black Harvard Women, as an organization and as a community, was one of the most influential aspects of my first year at Harvard. Out of the many cultural and community-based student groups, I naturally gravitated toward our association—probably because I couldn’t imagine not knowing such a intelligent, beautiful, talented, and caring group of black women. As a board member, I hope to not only fulfill the responsibilities of my role, but also to reciprocate the much-appreciated love upperclassmen ABHW members showered upon me and all black freshmen women as soon as we arrived on campus last fall.

Yasmin Lachir

AVS Co-Chair

ABHW to me is all about love and support.  We all come from different backgrounds, but through ABHW we are able to come together and really be there for one another.  ABHW is a sisterhood where you can rely on every member to have your back during times of need and when you just want someone to talk to or hang out with.  ABHW welcomes everyone and as a result we have an amazing group of girls.
