2013-2014

General Meetings

ABHW has a general meeting on the second and fourth Monday of each month. Each meeting has a specific topic of discussion. In the past, we have explored the following topics: the intersectionality of race, gender, and sexuality, standards of beauty in America, black women in the media, the power of racial and/or sexual language, etc.

Graduate School Panel

The Grad School Panel is an annual event that will occur during the fall semester. The event is always a crowd favorite with our organization and many of the girls are excited for this year’s panel! We are hoping the event will serve to the interests of the many young women in our membership looking for some advice, guidance, and encouragement as they pursue their graduate school dreams! Tentatively the event will consist of a panel, a breakout session, ice-breakers, and networking towards the end! Dessert is also to be provided!

Freshmen Ladies' Night

Each year, ABHW hosts Freshmen Ladies Night. During this event, freshmen are introduced to the Association of Black Harvard Women and are given upperclasswomen's advice and perspective on life at Harvard College.  Freshmen are encouraged to ask any questions that they may have and that they may have been afraid to ask in another setting. In addition to having a discussion, there are also activities that allow the freshmen girls to get to know each other. At the end of the event, freshmen are given a “survival guide” to life at Harvard.

Road to Success

Road to Success is ABHW's annual career panel. For this event, we invite African American women who have excelled in their professional careers to speak with ABHW women about how they have gotten to where they are and their personal experiences along the way. In the past, we have had lawyers, doctors, professors, amongst others. Food and drinks will be served.

ABHW-BMF Cocktail

Every year, The Association of Black Harvard Women hosts an annual cocktail event with Harvard's Black Men's Forum (BMF) to celebrate the end of the fall semester. During this event, ABHW and BMF members listen to music, eat, and are encouraged to mingle with and meet people that they haven't gotten a chance to interact with earlier in the academic year. We offer a variety of food, drinks, and desserts at this event!

Fall Retreat

Each year, ABHW has a fall retreat, where ABHW members are taken off campus for a weekend of fun and surprises. During this event, ABHW members get a chance to bond with each other and relax for a weekend away from school.

Freshmen-Senior Tea

The annual Freshmen-Senior Tea is a small get together to connect our membership from the freshmen class and the membership of the graduating class.  This is an event where the freshmen are able to obtain advice and knowledge about all facets of Harvard life from the seniors.
